The Rowdy Fellow

Indian Marsh Crocodile / Mugger - found near the freshwater ponds, lakes, sluggish rivers and marshes. Preys on variety of species like fish, reptiles, mammals and birds.

Interesting fact: learnt that muggers are one among the few reptiles which use tools to lure the prey. They balance sticks and tree branches on the head to lure the birds looking for suitable nesting material. (Source: Wikipedia)

Story behind the pic: Found this "Rowdy fellow" as termed by the officials, who were in the process of capturing / redirecting it which was trying to escape from a water sanctuary. Was heavily growling at the site of strangers and particularly me when tried taking a portrait of it..

Why do crocodiles rest with their mouth open..??

The Gharial, from the fish-eating Crocodilian family..
Crocodiles do not have sweat glands and release heat through their mouths. They often sleep with their mouths open and may pant like a dog..
